Gainesville is on Lake Lanier in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gainesville has received many awards and titles over the years because of its location and people. Gainesville is know as both the Queen City of the Mountains and also as the Poultry Capital. Gainesville hosted the 1996 Olympic Rowing/Kayaking Venue on Lake Lanier ? where a NBC broadcaster called Gainesville the "Hospitality Capital of the World". The city is known for both its natural beauty and charming, hospitable residents.

Gainesville is bordered by the beautiful Lake Lanier, a 38,000 acre lake, with 60 recreational areas, and seven commercial marinas. Gainesville is also home to the Lanier National Speedway , a3/8 mile asphalt stock car racing track sanctioned by NASCAR and Elachee Nature Science Center, a woodland refuge and museum, a 200-acre park and 40-acre show ground arena. Chicopee Woods features trails for the jogging, hiking and biking enthusiast. For those who wish to get away from the stresses of life the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort is located in nearby Braselton, Chateau Elan is a luxury and more featuring a spa, hotel, Irish Pub, championship golf courses, winery and is the prefect place to get away. Sports fans of Gainesville are proud to be the home of the Atlanta Falcons Football Complex which is where the Atlanta Falcons have ther practice facility and headquarters in Flowery Branch.
